An Inside Look… Summer Bookings
An inside look.

This feature of your blog is to give you an inside look as to how and why moving companies work the way they do. I thought I would look at what is relevant at this time of the year so today.s topic is .Summer Bookings.

During the warm months of the year, our phones ring off the hook with customers looking to book their moves. Some are calling in May to book for June, while others are calling today to book for tomorrow. People are always asking our office staff how far in advance they need to book their move and to be honest, there is no real answer. I always tell customers that dates are hit or miss. We may be booked a month in advance, and we may have openings the next day. So, plan ahead, call with as much notice as possible, and try to arrange with your realtor to have a flexible moving date. This will help to ensure you get the moving company of your choice.

The .waiting list. during the summer we often have customers who are asking to be put on our waiting list. While we of course put them on the list I must caution customers; most people do not cancel or change their move dates. We very rarely move someone from a waitlist up to being a booked move. The reason for this is that we ask for deposits from customers to make sure they are serious about using our company; we follow up in advance to confirm we are coming, and we never over book our moves.

Some movers will overbook clients counting on one of them to cancel their move. Unfortunately we get a lot of calls from stranded homeowners during the summer months because their movers have not arrived, and the new homeowners are waiting to move in. Be careful of this maneuver. When hiring a moving company get referrals from your friends, neighbors, and realtors. Always look at how they present themselves, are their sales people presentable? Ask for a confirmation with a start time, and call the day before your move to confirm. With follow through, you can make sure you are on the same page as your mover and ensure a smooth move.

I hope these tips were helpful in the process of booking your summer move. Happy (belated) 4th of July!!
